About Us: History

Established in Fulham in 1900 as the “Sunlight Laundry”, the company originally offered domestic laundry services throughout London. In 1928 a merger with another local laundry established “Sunlight and Western”, which continued to prosper, expanding geographically through the purchase of laundries in many towns across the country.

In 1963, the Sunlight Laundry (Loud & Western) Ltd merged with the National United Laundries Corporation to form National Sunlight Laundries. With the introduction of domestic washing machines and easy-iron fabrics, domestic demand fell, so the company developed a new service, renting and laundering bed and table linen for the hotel industry, as well as providing and laundering work clothing for both manufacturing and service industry customers.

During the 1980’s, Sunlight also commenced providing services to hospitals and other healthcare institutions, offering a range of services for both wards and operating theatres, which have now grown to become a significant part of our business.
