Sunlight Achieves Coveted Carbon Trust Standard Certificate

We are proud to announce that Sunlight has recently been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard Certificate for Sunlight Textile Services. Just over 160 other UK organisations have managed this feat so it is a massive accomplishment.

An organisation of this scale and nature inevitably has an impact on the environment, so the company takes its responsibilities seriously and has been working with the Carbon trust since 2006 to measure, manage and significantly reduce its carbon footprint.

In the words of the Carbon Trust Standard assessors “Sunlight Textile Services has demonstrated significant investment in energy saving measures over many years and has invested almost £4 million in energy projects in the assessment period alone.” They also noted that the company has “a clearly stated energy policy and an appropriate management structure to deal with energy. Energy usage and carbon emissions are effectively monitored against realistic targets and measures implemented to manage and reduce emissions.”

The assessors add that the results of such initiatives are remarkable. “Sunlight Textile Services has demonstrated an impressive record of carbon management by delivering a 5.8% reduction in their relative footprint over the assessment period.” Other highlights include a 41.1% saving on water usage in 2008 compared to 2005.

Sunlight Textiles Services’ Managing Director, Julian Carr, comments that "We're delighted to have received this award from the Carbon Trust Standard in recognition of all the work we have been doing to reduce our impact on the environment. It makes good business sense to reduce our carbon emissions as the savings we achieve mean that we can become even more sustainable by reinvesting in further carbon reduction initiatives."

On a like-for-like basis against 2005, in 2009 we have:

• Reduced water usage by over 1.6 million cubic metres per year

• Reduced our emissions of CO2 by 31,293 tonnes per year
